Post Road To Paradise run (RTP) Sat April 21, 2018 latest update
* Update- Moving this event back to Saturday as the weather pattern is changing to the better. Also no workday the next day if there are break downs.

This will be a lot of fun trying to get down to the beach this early in the season. If we make it we will have a hot dog roast on the beach. We will probably need to clean it up so Bring Chainsaws and trail clearing equipment.
details:
- leaving at 9 am at the Husky on Sylvester road near Mission.
- Air down spot will be Davis lake if you are late.
- Bring trail clearing tools.
- Truck requirements: two Working lockers, 33 in tires, 3 in lift, winch and tow points. (this is a tough trail so if you want to park and jump in with someone else that is fine)
- please let us know if you are coming.

This is a beautiful spot to get to, and the work to get to it, is worth the effort.

I have a free passenger seat Dan. We don't want you for your Jeep, just for your brush clearing abilities :)

Not sure which weather forecast you are checking but the weather network says 10mm of rain Saturday, sunny Sunday.

I work in the rain all week, if it’s raining Saturday I’m out,
Sunday still looks warm and dry

This is the problem with the weather prediction technology. It can not accurately forecast more than a day or two in advance. It now shows 2-4mm of possible rain in Mission on Saturday.

Picking the date of our monthly trail runs was done months ago to provide stability and the ability of our members to plan ahead for that date. The Saturday following the meeting was selected. Changing up a few days prior only serves to create confusion. Not everyone checks the forum daily for updates, especially for trail rides that had dates selected well in advance.

Thank you

Wes, I agree that monthly runs are generally set on a fixed date but trail clearing is different. I can sit in my Jeep all day long if it is raining or snowing outside but if I have to get out and run a chainsaw, haul branches, use a pruner etc, that is absolutely no fun in the rain. We did that on Vedder when we cleared the up and over trail and it made for a very uncomfortable day.

We know the weather on Sunday will be good. You are right that Saturday's forecast is improving and it looks like the rain will mainly be in the morning but in this case, the date should have been moved. Now the exec seems to have changed the date, and changed it back. That is more confusing than a one time change.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that we will stay dry on Saturday.

I do not know where the trail clearing came from. We are just going to go there and check it out. If there is windfall in the way, we will deal with it. There are no plans to do trail brushing, etc.

Thank you

I understood it to be a trail clearing day from the beginning

Only to deal with anything in our path of travel. Just the usual trail ride

We will likely be the first vehicles down this trail this year, so there may be windfall to deal with. It has been a different winter and the trees in the area range from eye pokers to car crushers. I am optimistic that this area will have few down as I did not see much evidence of windfall when I got near Kenyon a few weeks ago.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thank you

I also am sorry for the confusion. When the beginning of this post stated that trail clearing tools would be needed I did not mean we'd be doing Trail clearing so Wes is correct. Just trying to be prepared for the worst as you know that's what we have to do. Looking forward to meeting everybody at 9 tomorrow anybody else that's coming please post up so we know how many hot dogs to bring

Great day wheeling today

Some windfall to deal with but great weather and great trail

Broke trail in some snow past Kenyon

One section was a bit mucky

Paul lost a valve stem

Can not wait till the next trip in
