Post Baofeng handheld radio recommendation?
Which radio do you guys recommend? Looking to use it for a 2nd radio and hiking. There are a bunch of different versions. Who's got one and why?

Remember, you get what you pay for. I bought a couple of the UV-5R radios, just to have spares. They are cheap. If you buy the programming cable, use Chirp to program and modify them, they are worth the money. For what we want on the trail, they are perfect. Seem loud, fairly sensitive and well built. Again, cheap and disposable if necessary.

Sorry to reopen an old thread, but ….

I have the radio for FSRs that 4WDabc recommended. Does not appear that anyone else uses it. I never hear a peep when out wheeling on weekends.

I looked into HAM radios, but did not want to do the training and certification for the brief times I go out.

What does everyone else have that we can use for drives? I was thinking to just buy a set of 4-6 cheap 2-ways for the hen I go wheeling with some groups. I did buy a set of two which is currently down to a set of one when I forgot to get it back before heading home. Would rather not lose 4-5 more. Haha.

CB Radio work? Any other ideas besides doing more training and certification?

Most of us use VHF. Some still have CB, but not very many. You can get a baoefeng VHF portable to monitor comms without a licence.
