You might be right Gord, that whole campsite could be closed due to high water.
Maybe we should have a back up in in place.

I believe the camp is high enough above the river, but it might affect some of our day trips

Just so everyone knows LaVerna and I cannot make it for the long weekend . I am sure it will still good. I wish everyone the best of times and wish I was there instead of working in Winnipeg. The only highlight will be playoff hockey.

The Nickel Plate road is washed out. No exploring up there unless it gets fixed in the next 5 days.

saw video of road on fb. nobody is going thru the one at 5km. There is another washout at 3 km that is smaller.

Just in case, should we have a backup plan in place?
I may be the first one up there.

The site we have selected is much higher than the river. It is some 30+ feet above the river. It is not in the flood plain.

Flooding is expected in low lying areas mid week and then it will recede. Much like last week.

The notices have been for worst case. The farms and homes under evacuation alert are all pretty low and in the flood plain

I have a feeling there will be a priority on fixing this PDQ as an emergency alternate access around Keromeous with HWY 3 Expected to be closed 14KM west of town again this week.

For more information, I found the attached forecast of the Similkameen River near our camping spot. The river flows will peak just before the weekend (Thursday & Friday) and drop towards Monday.

If you want to follow the links, they are:

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/envi ... ast-centre

Current flows (click on the dot on the map near our campsite):

http://bcrfc.env.gov.bc.ca/freshet/ALL_ ... leMap.html

https://wateroffice.ec.gc.ca/report/rea ... tn=08NL038

Projected flows (click on the dot on the map near our campsite):

http://bcrfc.env.gov.bc.ca/freshet/CLM_ ... leMap.html

And for those wanting even more info, I have also attached the May 1st snow survey!

I'd suggest that Ron scouts the camp site and advise us if we need to bring our waders and paddles...

I won’t be doing much wheeling (still recovering from stupid pneumonia) so I’ll supervise any bailing necessary ;)

Well that looks like a bad idea to camp there now. Hedley and Princeton evacuation alerts. Is there a plan B? I'm camping somewhere for sure.

My trailer can ford a foot or so, as long as I bring my galoshes I should be fine.

I'm heading up Friday Ron, no set departure time but I'll leave before noon anyway. Should be there before 3 pm or so I guess. Will be on Herd frequency and APRS.

The campsite is about 30’ above the river

The river is not rising anywhere near that

The low lying areas beside the river will flood. If the water is such, the highway will be closed before you get to Princeton

The site will likely be busy as the low lying sites closer to Princeton and the Picard site will be flooded

This site is not as popular a rec site as it is so far from the water

Is this place trailer friendly?

The TJ isn't ready and the JK isn't set up to flat tow yet so I'll have to trailer the JK.
